Free Heart Transplant for All
There is a buzz going around with special place in Northwest Spain, in Galicia. They made a movie, called "The Way", starring Martin Sheen and Emilio Esteves, about it. Like Rome and Jerusalem, Pope Alexander III declared it a Holy Town and Pope Calixto II declared that the pilgrims who went to there in a Holy Year would be free of all their sins. My uncle just had foot surgery in preparation for the journey. This special place is called Santiago de Compostela. Pilgrims from all over the world meet at various starting points to walk, horseback ride, bike to Santiago de Compostela. For example, there is the The Camino Portugués, but the more travelled route is from Roncesvalles to Santiago, which is about 800 km i.e. 4-5 weeks walking.
Saint James, also know as Santiago in Spanish, was one of the early Apostles of Jesus Christ. Saint James traveled to "end of the world", what Romans called the "Finis Terrae", to preach about Jesus Christ and Christianity, to help show the people the new Way. He was then martyred in Palestine and forbidden a burial by Herod. His body ended back up in Galicia. Pope Benedict XVI visited there recently.
As the pope is in his final days of his blessed mission, I'm pondering about this special pilgirmage. It's heavy on my mind and I'm convinced that I want to make the journey. I first learned about it on Rick Steve's show. I can't wait to hear all about it from my uncle on his return. I'm also praying that the next pope can do something with such staying power and appeal to help people, folks like you and I, to reexamine our hearts. And with our God given free will, we can transform our hearts to follow God's will. Now, that's the free transplant I'm talking about. No messy blood, anesthesia, and huge scar to deal with.
